Marketing Communications Consent

Version 1.0.0

This draft creates a separate, optional guardian choice for general THS news, membership promotions, programs, and offers.

Operational draft, pending qualified counsel approval

This document is public for product and family review. It is not effective and must not be presented as an activated agreement or consent request.

What the consent screen must say

Your choice, in plain language

Yes, send general THS news, membership updates, programs, and offers to my guardian email.
If you decline
No general marketing email is authorized by this choice. Declining does not affect eligibility, price, membership access, event registration, or necessary service messages.
If you later withdraw
The guardian may unsubscribe at any time through the link in a marketing email or the approved preference channel. Withdrawal applies to future general marketing after the request is processed and does not suppress necessary service messages.

1. Draft status and voluntary choice

This is an operational draft and is not yet effective. Marketing consent is voluntary, separate from membership terms, privacy acknowledgment, student participation, transactional messages, and local event marketing.

The legal sender name, physical mailing address, monitored contact, and unsubscribe operation must be confirmed before activation.

2. What a yes covers

This consent is for the guardian email attached to the recorded choice. It does not authorize direct marketing to a student email or a sale, rental, or organizer download of the family address.

  • General THS newsletters and stories.
  • Society membership announcements, benefits, enrollment periods, and promotional offers.
  • New THS programs, national digital gatherings, partnerships, and sponsor-supported opportunities that THS has approved for the audience.
  • Surveys or research invitations that are optional and clearly identify their purpose before collecting new information.

3. What a yes does not cover

This choice does not cover local or regional event-discovery email, which uses `local_event_email`. It does not replace a ticket, event registration, event waiver, student-content release, SMS consent, phone consent, or consent for targeted advertising.

THS does not condition youth access, event eligibility, pricing, or service quality on this optional marketing choice.

4. Message standards

  • Identify THS and the sender accurately and use a subject that reflects the message.
  • Make any advertising character clear, provide the approved physical mailing address, and include a clear way to unsubscribe.
  • Do not use a student's private activity, safety history, inferred sensitive traits, or precise location to target marketing.
  • Do not disguise marketing as a security, billing, safety, or event-service message.

5. Preferences and withdrawal

The guardian may withdraw this choice without withdrawing local event email, if separately selected, and without silencing necessary transactional communications. THS must suppress future general marketing promptly and within the period required by applicable law.

An unsubscribe mechanism must remain functional for the required period after a message is sent. THS and vendors acting for THS must honor the same suppression state and may not transfer a suppressed address except as needed to enforce the suppression.

6. Records and changes

THS records the guardian, purpose, policy key, version, content hash, decision, time, source, and suppression state needed to prove and honor the choice. A new purpose or materially broader recipient group requires a new policy version and fresh opt-in.

Engagement measurement, if used, must be disclosed accurately, minimized, and reviewed for child and household privacy before activation.

Not part of an acceptance

Gates before activation

These implementation and legal gaps must be resolved before this version can become effective.

  1. Insert the legal sender, physical mailing address, marketing contact, and tested one-step unsubscribe route.
  2. Counsel must approve consent, advertisement labeling, suppression, vendor, recordkeeping, and state-law requirements.
  3. Engineering must prove purpose separation from local-event and transactional mail, guardian-only delivery, suppression before send, and no raw-list export.
  4. Decide and disclose whether open or click measurement is used. Do not claim privacy-preserving measurement until it is implemented and verified.
